Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative Grants – Barunga West Council – Round 7

HDS Australia’s Senior Traffic & Transport Engineer, Tim Viner Smith, recently completed a Network Level Heavy Vehicle Route Assessment (NHVRA) for Barunga West Council. Earlier this year, Council was awarded a funding grant to develop and carry out a route assessment and risk analysis of Council’s local and heavy vehicle road network, through Round 7 of the Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative (HVSI).  The HVSI was started by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) on behalf of the Commonwealth Government.  So far, it has provided $33.5 million for 132 grants over the past 7 years. The Australian Government has also committed a further $1.7 million to the NHVR to fund targeted projects to improve heavy vehicle safety, taking total commitment for HVSI projects to $5.6 million in 2022-23.  Round 7 of the HVSI includes backing for new education, research, training, and technology initiatives that aim to deliver improved safety outcomes for the heavy vehicle industry.   For more information read the NHVR website article and list of projects won in Round 7 below.
