Road Design

Our comprehensive road and highway design services cover the design of roads, ranging from initial concept development through to detailed design. A significant aspect of our services involves community consultation, which is integral to each of the major phases of a project to ensure acceptance by all stakeholders.

HDS Australia’s consultant team has extensive experience in the fields of concept development, preliminary and detailed design of road projects. Each of our senior designers has in excess of 20 years of experience in the provision of road design services to state, local road authorities and private developers. Projects undertaken range from small intersection upgrades to large urban and rural highways. While we undertake road design projects in our own right, we have a range of alliances which enable us to undertake major projects.

Specific areas of expertise include:

  • project management of design projects,
  • concept development,
  • detailed road/ highway design,
  • pavement design and rehabilitation,
  • community consultation processes,
  • liaison with relevant authorities, and
  • preliminary and detailed geometric design using the MX and 12D design packages, plus AutoCad design/drafting tools.

The company has specific expertise in the design of roundabouts and other intersection treatments to fit constrained environments or where the movement of semi-trailers, B-Doubles or road trains are involved.  The company has had particular success in creating solutions for safe vehicle movements in country township business centres, including separation of heavy vehicles from other commuters.  It also focuses on producing safe, but low cost, solutions for freight movements on lightly trafficked roads.

Since 1988, HDS Australia has undertaken a wide variety of urban and rural road design projects, along with residential street developments, for state government, local government and private sector clients.  Profiles for a selection of these past projects are available via the following links:
